Jack Wilson’s Cabin

Scenery not included
Jack (John) Wilson’s cabin was built on the raised foundation of a previous miner’s shack that had been built in the 1890’s during the roaring days of Sandon, on the edge of Sandon Creek Gulch. Jack Wilson, a teamster in Sandon, worked running concentrates from the Slocan Star Mill down to the railway in the town. After an accident that killed several of his horses and wrecked his wagon, he gave up on that work. Right after WW1, he took a lease on the Payne mine, which had been the richest mine in Canada at one time. A portion of the mine, now closed, was leased to Jack where he would find pockets of ore that the company had missed during its hay days. Jack’s wealth rose to a sum of $50,000 in the 1920’s, which was a huge amount of money at the time. He then pumped his fortune into real estate on the coast, which he promptly lost during the depression.
Wilson had inherited the cabin from its previous owner and fixed it up with part of his mining fortune and lived in it until he was killed by a falling rock working in a road crew in 1937. Eugene Petersen was a good friend of Jacks and ended up with the cabin and all his belongings. The cabin eventually fell into disrepair over the years until Hal Wright came along.
Hal wound up with the cabin in 1971 when he moved to Sandon. He restored the cabin into a cozy little home while his love with the old mining ghost town grew. Unfortunately, the cabin was lost to fire on the morning of January 11, 2018. All that stands today to remind us of this history is the green outhouse standing guard on the grounds.
This little cabin is packed with history, detail and charm. It comes with a raised foundation and deck with staircase. The outhouse comes with this kit too. Hal and Vida’s cats, Jack and Eli can be seen sitting on the deck and railing, waiting for dad to come home from work.
